The felting needle holder has been developed with comfort, durability and ease of use in focus, and is adapted to both beginners and experienced felting enthusiasts. User-friendly solution for all filters
The needle holder is user-friendly, comfortable and durable. The holder is made for both right and left-handed people with an ergonomic design that makes it easy to hold and it is lightweight (under 9 grams without needles). This makes it comfortable to use even when felting for long periods of time and is suitable for both 2D and 3D felting.
Durable and easy needle replacement
The felting needle holder is designed for long life and needles can be easily replaced if they break. This gives you maximum enjoyment from every project without worrying about running out of needles with a handpiece. Perfect for both beginners and experienced felting enthusiasts!
Color coding and stable needle placement
The needle holder comes in 6 different colors: red, blue, green, yellow, orange and pink. These are the same colors as the needles we have and that we believe need such a holder. We also have an extra color that is pink. We have made it to have it ready until we take in more types of needles. Our gold needle, which is a 40g star, we have not made a holder for today, this is because we believe after some testing that it is not suitable for using several at a time, but a super single needle. It is possible that in the future we can also make it in more colors if this becomes necessary or comes as a request from customers.
The needle holder allows the needles to be placed in a straight line with favorable spacing between the needles, and they are held completely tight without any slack.
We recommend that you use red needles in the red needle holder and insert the green needles in the green needle holder, then you can easily find the right needle. Use the same type of needle in the holder, for example two green ones. Do not insert different needles as this will make the needles break more easily and it will not be good to work with. It is good to have 2 holders in the same color for some of the colors, when we filter we must have two needle holders in Green, because we often use a green needle holder with 2 green needles, but also often a green needle holder with 3 green needles.
Light weight
The felting needle holder without needles weighs less than 9 grams, so it is very light and comfortable to hold.
Number of needles
The holder has space for 3 needles and you can choose to insert 1, 2 or 3 needles. At Ullnåla, we think it is best to use single needles without a handpiece, so we only use 2 and 3 in the holders, but here everyone is free to find a solution they like themselves.
By inserting 2 or 3 needles, you get a double or triple needle that is suitable for both flat felting (2D) and figure felting (3D). If you make yourself a double needle in green, blue or orange, it is suitable for shaping, tightening and joining larger parts (e.g. attaching head/arms/legs to the body). You have more control on a double needle compared to a triple needle due to the narrower working area. If you make yourself a yellow double needle, you can use a reverse needle twice as effectively if you want a fluffy surface. If you make yourself a triple needle in red or green, it is great for flat felting and smoothing surfaces to create nice surfaces. If you make yourself a triple needle in green, orange, blue or red, these are great for tightening and shaping large 3D parts such as the head, arms, legs and body.
Try and find what you like, everyone has different opinions and preferences about which needles should be used for different tasks, there is no one-size-fits-all. Change needles often to test different ones.
Easy assembly
The needle holder is mounted with two Torx T10 screws. If you do not have such a screwdriver, we have a simple small Torx key in the online store. If you want to insert 2 needles, we recommend that you insert the needles in the two places closest to where the tip of your index finger is when you hold the needle holder.
The needles you insert are purchased separately and are not included. Single needles that fit can be found here.
The felting needle holder is adapted to our needles, so unfortunately I cannot say anything about how it fits any other felting needles.
Feedback and background
The reason we developed a completely new type of felting needle holder was because we couldn't make enough needles with handpieces, these were popular, but time-consuming to produce as they were all made by hand, with several processes such as shaping, drying and baking. As is well known, needles break every now and then and then the triple needle or double needle became unusable and had to be thrown away. Other felting needle holders on the market didn't suit us, they weren't ergonomic, heavy to hold, unstable and the needles weren't in the position we prefer, they simply couldn't compete with handmade handpieces. We only want to sell high-quality products, so we had to think differently. So voilà! Here's the solution we came up with and we can say we're very proud of it!
